Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Senior Publicity and Promotion Manager is a publicity and social media expert conversant with videography, whose work complements the web/publications/direct mail side of the unit. Provides overall leadership and direction for videography staff/vendors. Guided by leadership's vision for the College, the manager will oversee the production of news, features, and campaigns in multimedia formats (print, digital, photography, video, audio) on social media platforms and web pages to enhance the College’s brand and to support College goals. Working closely with the director and assistant director to serve Engineering Administration, this individual is a solutions-oriented manager who is as comfortable with processes and data as she/he/they are with creative ideas and people. Working with faculty and administration, the manager will collaborate on multimedia projects with members of the Communications team, Engineering Communicators, University Communications, and many other Communicators across campus to coordinate the development, production, and distribution of digital content. The manager will serve as a liaison to the Engineering Communicators regarding all things publicity and promotion. A self-starter, this individual will initiate continual improvements in Engineering's content strategy and associated workflow based on regular data-gathering and critical review. The manager will oversee creative work produced by writers/editors, videographers, designers, and photographers. Producers may be staff, student workers, temps, independent contractors or agencies. The manager will train staff, student workers, and freelancers as necessary. Make presentations as needed.

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, journalism, marketing, liberal arts, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of solid experience managing publicity and promotional projects and the staff associated with such projects in a higher ed or nonprofit environment, including social media, videography, and photography. 

Preferred:

  • Experience in CRM in a large higher ed institution.
  • Experience working with faculty, freelancers, agencies, and student workers.
  • Familiarity with higher ed niche markets and higher ed and/or engineering media. 

Skills
Required:

  • Solid experience with the news cycle, mass media industry standards, journalism/journalists. 
  • Experience working within a team encompassing the full range of communicators, including internal news teams, strategists, graphic designers, web developers, writers/editors, and events coordinators.  
  • Proven effectiveness in developing social media strategies and in measuring performance of social media; proven success in achieving social media objectives. 
  • Experience working in concert with web developers using Google Analytics, search ranking and optimization factors, and data-driven SEO analysis and optimization.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and SEO tools.
  • Familiarity with a variety of multimedia formats and programs and in working with camera, audio and lighting equipment.
