Job Summary

The Department of Cooperative Extension Services (CES) is seeking a professional to provide academic 4-H support and expertise in 4-H program development and implementation. In this role, you will work under general supervision and in collaboration with the Juntos 4-H State Staff who support area and county 4-H staff members delivering the 4-H program at the county level. This position will be an integral part of the Indiana 4-H Team and will direct the day-to-day operations of Juntos 4-H in Jackson County, with a specific focus on Career Pathways in Agriculture. 

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Promoting the program via introductory meetings with schools, community partners, and families throughout each programming year
  • Building strong communication channels between grant partners (NC State University Juntos office, Foundations, local Cooperative Extension office, and school system)
  • Facilitating communication and coordination with extension field staff, school personnel, and program partners
  • Working with grant partners to build local community partnerships to support programming and sustainability efforts
  • Assisting in planning and hosting sustainability meeting(s) annually
  • Managing the recruitment and attendance of students and families in the program throughout each program year
  • Meeting expected recruitment numbers set by the grant
  • Planning educational content for Family Nights every other month and conduct the Juntos Family Workshop series once a year
  • Working with schools to coordinate and schedule bi-monthly 4-H Club meetings
  • Facilitating the planning of 4-H Club activities and meetings via electing effective student leaders and engaging parent and community volunteers in the planning
  • Monitoring the academic progress of youth in the program by creating an academic action plan for each student and managing one-on-one success coaching sessions for at least 30 minutes per month (generally during school hours)
  • Recruiting for, planning, and attending Summer Academy with a cohort of youth
  • Managing the program, including updating participant registration, maintaining project task logs, meeting minutes, sign-in sheets, attendance records, and related activities
  • Tracking program successes (including taking pictures, documenting success stories, and contributing to county and state social media)
  • Supporting evaluation team in collecting baseline surveys with parents and youth and follow-up surveys. Assisting with other data collection and coordination of evaluation data as needed
  • Assisting local 4-H Program staff with county fair responsibilities as it relates to youth involved through Juntos 4-H
  • Developing and cultivating external funding sources to enhance educational programming
  • Providing leadership and support to area team as it relates to Juntos 4-H youth participating in out of county experiences (ie: Career Development Events, 4-H Camp, Summer Experiences on Campus, etc.) 

What We're Looking For:

  • Master’s degree 
  • 6 months of experience in educational program development, implementation, and evaluation and/or experience related farm management, commercial agriculture, livestock production, horticulture, or another ag-related field 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered (Bachelor's degree + 2.5 years of experience 
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) in English and Spanish
  • Possess strong communication skills
  • Leadership, mentoring, teamwork, and group process skills
  • Knowledge of basic educational methods
  • Willing and capable of working with multiple stakeholders
  • Critical thinker with exceptional problem-solving skills
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license or dependable transportation
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed within and beyond the county of assignment
  • Have knowledge of agriculture and a passion for assisting youth in career pathways
  • Able to use various virtual tools, i.e., Zoom, Google Meets, etc., and technology sources to support programming needs

  • This position requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and move up to 50 pounds frequently, and to carry out duties in different environments which may include, cold, hot, dust, and weather.
  • Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization for this position
  • A valid driver’s license is required for all Extension Educator positions
  • A background check and MVR check is required for employment in this position
  • Travel using personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided) and evening and weekend work is an integral part of this position
