Job Summary

As a Specimen Processor, Associate at Purdue University, you will play an important role in supporting accurate, reliable laboratory operations. In this entry-level technical position, you will receive, verify, prepare, document, store, and transfer specimens while safeguarding specimen integrity and following established procedures and protocols. Working with guidance from experienced colleagues, you will help resolve routine discrepancies, identify issues that require escalation, and contribute to a collaborative environment where attention to detail and dependable service help move meaningful work forward.

 

About us:

The Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) at the Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine, located in West Lafayette, IN, is a full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory that serves the state of Indiana by providing both routine and regulatory diagnostic services to support Indiana veterinarians, animal health officials, livestock producers, and animal owners. 

 

What you will be doing:

  • Enter and verify client information, perform routine data quality checks, and make accurate corrections in accordance with established procedures.
  • Deliver responsive service to clients by phone and in person, gather required information, answer routine case-related questions using established guidance, and collaborate with partner departments to relay messages and direct calls.
  • Review specimens and submission forms for completeness and accuracy, identify discrepancies between specimens and submitted information, and route samples to the appropriate departments using established procedures and guidance.
  • Prepare and ship diagnostic specimens safely and accurately in accordance with established requirements, identifying and reporting inconsistencies with guidance as needed.
  • Support quality practices, routine maintenance, and workspace upkeep, and contribute to other duties as assigned to help the team deliver reliable service.

Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Up to two years of relevant work experience

 

Skills Needed:

  • Basic knowledge of departmental processes and procedures (or ability to learn quickly).
  • Fundamental keyboarding and data entry skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions closely.
  • Ability to work under close supervision and accept feedback constructively.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
