Job Summary

The Sponsored Research Operations Coordinator will serve as a frontline steward and primary point of contact in determining proposal assistance needs within the Strategic Interdisciplinary Research department.  This staff member will also assist in working with proposal teams to determine teaming needs among areas on campus, such as sponsored programs, contracting, administrative operations, finance, and others as needed.   The staff member will assist in assessing and fulfilling cost sharing and institutional support needs while interacting with a variety of stakeholders across campus. This includes reviewing proposal budgets, partnering with stakeholders to determine cost sharing allocations, and managing internal reporting to document Office of Research commitments. This staff member will also assist in the coordination of letters of support from the office for external proposal submission.  

 

This position can be 100% remote. 

 


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a point of contact and representative of the Office of Research in the cost-share process
  • Review budgets and assist the Director of Interdisciplinary Research Administration in negotiating cost-sharing distributions with faculty, department heads, associate deans for research, pre-award and finance staff, renegotiating as needed for resubmissions, revisions, etc., of a proposal
  • Assist in documenting and monitoring pending commitments
  • Develop and maintain reports in conjunction with other responsible areas on campus to monitor and project future cost-sharing needs
  • Present details on the cost sharing process to diverse groups across campus
  • Serve as a point of contact and representative of the Strategic Interdisciplinary Research department, helping to direct service requests across colleagues within and outside the department. This could include assisting in providing collaboration between proposing teams and grant writers, content specialists, pre-award, contracting, administrative operations, finance, Office of the Provost, etc.
  • Help to identify areas within the department where an improvement of processes could be beneficial
  • Maintain ongoing familiarity with research funding opportunities/programs, agency proposal requirements, peer institutions, and other resources as needed for relevancy within the Purdue research enterprise. Provide guidance for long-term strategic planning relative to external funding and related relative needs
  • Assist in writing and reviewing university letters of support and obtaining senior administration signatures
  • Support the overarching aims of the Strategic Interdisciplinary Research department of the Office of Research. This may include supporting internal funding programs as needed
  • Assist on ad hoc projects related to research or other internal funding programs as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, communications, finance, accounting, or a related field
  • Four (4) years of experience in research administration or a university research environment
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Ability to work independently in making decisions and meeting deadlines, with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication, planning, problem-solving, analytical, project management, and customer service skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities
  • Ability to remain agile and flexible in adjusting to competing priorities
  • Serve as a point of contact and representative of the Office of Research in the cost-share process
  • Work with faculty, department heads, associate deans for research, pre-award
  • Demonstrated skills in working with spreadsheets and understanding federal cost accounting principles

 

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of university policies related to sponsored research funding
