- Required hours include the possibility of some office hours but typically days and weekends (outside of office hours) for event photography scheduling/coverage.
- There is the capacity to photograph 10-15 events per semester, with each event shift being 2-3 hours.

Job Description
The primary role of the Photography and Graphic Design Associate is to support VPSL events (for students and staff) and campus initiatives, including but not limited to event photography and videography, editing (to include usage for pre-post event publicity, other photo/video needs, etc.). Further, this position may complete graphic design, write/create content for social media platforms, including but not limited to photography, graphic design, video reels, or general office support, when necessary.
The goal of this position is to give students valuable real-world experience in a marketing environment, with networking opportunities and special events. Event hours may be worked in any combination at the discretion of the student employment director. The Photography and Graphic Design Associate must be reliable, organized, responsible, and flexible. They must also be ambitious, detail-oriented, creative, and driven. Student positions are considered an integral part of success within Student Life, and as such, ideas and input will be valued.
The ideal student will be knowledgeable and proficient in the Abode Creative Suite and Microsoft Office is required. Knowledge of social media marketing, AP Style, Content Management Systems, HTML, Canva, etc. is a plus. This position is open to any student who has the experience and knowledge to be a Photographer/Videographer and can showcase their graphic designs. All Associates are representatives of the division and tell the story through photos and posts, thus building awareness, excitement and connection through engaging photos, graphic design and writing. This position is viewed as a brand ambassador thus sharing and celebrating VPSL with organizational achievements, parent & family events, engaging alumni and more. They must be able to work with others and provide feedback, operate with integrity, and follow all assignments through to completion. Flexibility in scheduling is critical as planned events are not consistent with normal business hours and will likely include evenings and weekends.
Prerequisites, Qualifications, Responsibilities
Prerequisite(s)
- The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in and must have experience using Canva, Adobe, and/or other graphic design software, social media platforms (including Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube); must have creative ideas and abilities; must be detail-oriented with good organization, communication and editorial skills; must be reliable, responsible, and flexible.
- The ideal candidate will have previous experience in event photography and be to produce a portfolio/sample work for initial interview process.
- The ideal candidate will have graphic design or photography and videography experience and may have taken related courses; be knowledgeable in Adobe Creative Suites (i.e.: Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator); and have attention to detail and editing skills.
- Candidate can supply their own camera; however, a Nikon DLSR is available for use.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and minimum of one semester of college coursework successfully completed
- Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University, Purdue Global, or an accredited university
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Flexible and dependable with a strong attention to detail
- Problem solving, logic and reasoning skills
- Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Be timely and organized
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office and handling a DSLR camera.
- Experience in marketing efforts utilizing social media
Position Responsibilities
- Collaborate to create photography and/or videography at VPSL events that can later be used for marketing and communication initiatives.
- Create, produce and evaluate photography content.
- Serve as a student representative for the Vice Provost for Student Life department
- Present ideas to division leadership as identified.
- Writing, editing, and graphic design skills.
- Take lead on photography or media related projects, as assigned, working with others to help fulfill, schedule and complete assigned tasks.
- Look for ways to continuously improve and advance the photography area and make suggestions on how to better organize files, suggest training opportunities or exercises and make process improvements.
- Responsible for all scheduled shifts (based on class/exam schedules for the semester).
- Must attend all scheduled staff meetings to gain and/or share pertinent information.
- Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional conduct when handling sensitive information.
- Other duties as assigned.
