Job Summary
The Department of Physics and Astronomy seeks a student Operations Assistant to support building operations. The position combines both administrative computer work and physical operations projects. The position will work closely with the Assistant Department Head, Building Operations Manager, and the Shipping & Receiving Clerk.
Administrative work includes data entry, data management, organizing electronic documents, completing inspection checklists, writing reports, and preparing email communications. Operations projects include conducting laboratory safety inspections, managing safety abatement tasks, moving furniture and other items throughout the building, preparing surplus items for removal, organizing offices and laboratory space, and handling a variety of other small but important tasks. The Operations Assistant may also represent the Building Operations Manager at meetings and communicate with outside vendors and contractors.
Required skills

- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and lab safety instructions.
- Ability to work independently and with a team on delegated tasks.
- Ability to move equipment using safe lifting techniques, team lifting, wheeled dollies, carts, hand truck, and pallet jack.
Preferred skills
- Interest in facility operations, supply chain management, organizational leadership, laboratory safety, or scientific research.
Hours
- 6-12 hours per week.
Pay
- $12 per hour
