Job Summary

Starting pay rate: $14.00/hr with the ability to make $15/hr during Special Events and Holidays

More than 40+ lifeguards are employed across the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center and the Recreational Pool during the summer. In order to apply, you must hold and/or obtain a current lifeguard certification. We will accept certification from American Red Cross, Ellis and Associates, STARGUARD, and YMCA Lifeguard. All newly hired lifeguards are required to complete a skills assessment which verifies that their skills are proficient according to American Red Cross lifeguard standards (R.24).

If you have not been lifeguard certified before, we do offer opportunities to become certified prior to starting employment with us. We offer a low-cost lifeguard certification ($50) to eligible applicants who pass the interview and successfully complete the required swim assessment. All employees are required to maintain an active lifeguard certification.

Hours and Scheduling:

Over the summer, we typically staff the pools from 6am-7pm. Shift lengths vary depending on lifeguard preference with a maximum of 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week. Weekly schedules are released of the Friday 2 weeks in advance. Any RTO requests must be submitted the Thursday before the schedule is released.
