Job Title:  Supervisor of Softball Operations

Job Summary

Work with the Softball head coach specifically in the areas of team travel, compliance, scheduling practices, student-managers, ticket lists and organization of team calendar. Responsible for seeing projects through from beginning to completion.

What You'll Be Doing:

Supervision:

  • Supervise student managers and work-study students: hire, fire and performance feedback.
  • Develop, write, and communicate procedures to ensure an effective flow of information between the coaches, support staff and other Athletic operations. 

 

Administrative Support:

  • Assist with identification of future opponents and works in conjunction with the business office to negotiate game contracts.
  • Establish and implement policy relative to complimentary admissions for high school coaches and former student-athletes.
  • Responsible for establishing the schedule and sport requirements for all away meets, including the contacting of the host University to coordinate the activities associated with the visit. This includes all post-season tournament games.
  • By meeting with a variety of constituents, this person is responsible for the development of the master calendar for the Softball program.
  • Responsible for all travel logistics
  • Responsible for calendar updates
  • Cultivate relationships with all departments to plan and coordinate events

 

Recruiting:

  • Plan, organize and implement the on-campus recruiting program.
  • Interpret and ensure adherence to NCAA, Big Ten, and Departmental policies and procedures. Report and document violations and recommend course of action to Head Coach. Work with compliance director to resolve issues.
  • Responsible for recruiting database and coordination of mailing materials

 

Academic/Student-Athlete Support:

  • Partner with Athletics Student Services to identify and monitor student-athletes (S-A).
  • Provide S-A's with time-management and organizational skills counseling.
  • Monitor study tables while traveling with the team
  • Help track eligibility for incoming/transfer/continuing student athletes  

 

Fiscal Management:

  • Analyze all Softball expenditures and advise Head Coach on all budget-related issues.
  • Prepare annual budget and present to Head Coach
  • Review, analyze, and provide Athletic Business Office with all budget-related documentation. 

 

Community Service/Alumni Liaison:

  • Coordinate team related community service events.
  • Coordinate coach and team appearances throughout the year.
  • Coordinate annual alumni event
  • Manage alumni database
  • Serve as the liaison for the student-development team to coordinate community service activities

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree - Business, Supervision, Sports Administration, Higher Education administration, HKS, Liberal Arts or related fields
  • Two (2) years of experience in sports administration or Higher Education Administration or related coaching experience
  • Prior collegiate student-manager or student-athlete is a plus
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered

 

Skills needed:

  • Ability to effectively communicate with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, staff, and parents; ability to plan and organize work to meet established deadlines; ability to read, interpret, instruct, and effectively communicate complex rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, communicate, and adhere to University, Big Ten Conference, and NCAA policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Must be able to demonstrate problem-solving, analytical, public relations, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels.
  • Must be able to foster a participative supervisory style that utilizes The Basic Principles and teamwork to successfully guide the work of others.
  • Must possess a learning orientation to changing technology affecting business/sport processes.
  • Personal computer and related software skills, e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, etc., necessary. Knowledge in Concur, TeamWorks, JumpForward,
