Job Summary

The Senior Veterinary Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean and stocked service, providing basic animal care needs, and allowing the Registered Veterinary Technician team to work efficiently to complete orders and patient treatments to achieve the goals of the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital. This position requires proficiency in understanding patient restraint, hospital cleaning protocols, and hospital treatment protocols to anticipate need. Senior Veterinary Assistants will have the skills and training necessary to work more independently on tasks and help to train newly hired Assistants as well as participate in teaching basic restraint and husbandry skills to both veterinary and veterinary nursing students.  Assignment to other areas of the hospital may be required, as well as holiday rotation and possible participation in on-call coverage. 

 

What We're Looking For:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience in a veterinary hospital
  • Able to listen to and follow both verbal and written directions
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills with the ability to read and write in English
  • Must have confidence around domestic animals animals

 

Preferred: 

  • Specialty veterinary experience
  • NAVTA Veterinary Assistant certification
