Job Summary

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic, credentialed veterinary technician for our Anesthesia team. This position will work closely with anesthesiologists and surgeons, providing anesthesia support for both large and small animal patients during both emergency and elective procedures. Anesthesia veterinary technicians have the opportunity to learn and increase their skills both in monitoring and with the opportunity to place arterial catheters, central catheters, and utilize regional anesthesia. Training and support is offered to ensure comfort with large animal species. Shifts are M-F with an after-hours on-call rotation. 

 

All veterinary technicians in the hospital have the opportunity to continually learn new skills and techniques. This knowledge leads to teaching those skills to veterinary and veterinary nursing students. We are looking for someone with a solid base of anesthesia knowledge, organizational and time management skills, and a desire to learn new things.

What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience:

 

  • Associate's degree from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program
  • Candidates must be registered in Indiana within twelve (12) months
     

 

Skills Needed:

  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
  • Strong oral/written communication skills; ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to handle the physical and emotional aspects of work in a veterinary hospital environment
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally
     

What is Helpful:

  • Teaching and computer experience
  • Experience in a veterinary practice or veterinary teaching hospital
  • Emergency or critical care experience
  • Experience in emergency, multispecialty veterinary hospital, or veterinary teaching hospital
  • Experience in general practice
