Visiting Assistant Professor of Educational Studies in Higher Education

Job Position Description

The Department of Educational Studies (http://www.edst.purdue.edu) within the College of Education at Purdue University invites applications for a 9-month position, Visiting Assistant Professor of Higher Education to begin no later than August 16, 2027. The Higher Education program has delivered a redesigned, research-intensive, and successful Ph.D. program since 2019. In Spring 2025, the program area began offering an online Master’s degree in Educational Studies with a concentration in Higher Education Systems, Policy, and Leadership. The faculty are dedicated to preparing future administrators and faculty members in the field of higher education. This position will serve both the Ph.D. and Masters level degree programs and is set for an initial term of one year, with a potential second, mutually agreed upon year.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to:

• Engage in scholarship with Ph.D. students, serving as research mentor for student peer-reviewed research papers
• Help coordinate support services for the new Master’s program
• Teach a variety of courses in both the Higher Education PhD and the Higher Education Systems, Policy, and Leadership Master’s program, 2 classes in Fall and 2 classes in Spring semesters
• Guide doctoral students in their area of research and/or practice expertise
• Contribute to and engage in service to the program, department, college, and profession.

Required Qualifications

• Hold a Ph.D. or Ed.D. with a concentration in higher education or related field by the position start date. ABD with a completion date before August 2027 may be considered.
• A strong record or demonstrated potential of research productivity in peer-reviewed high quality journals.
• Ability to teach courses in both the Ph.D. and Master’s programs in higher education.
• Ability to work in the U.S. without immigration sponsorship from Purdue University.

Preferred Qualifications

• Evidence of teaching excellence.
• Strong consideration for applicants with expertise and/or experience teaching higher education law, finance, assessment & program evaluation, and/or organizational administration & theory.
• Strong methodological experience in one or more areas of inquiry (e.g., experimental research, survey, case-study, phenomenological, systematic literature review).

Salary

Salary and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.
