Job Summary
Work with at-risk student-athletes, including those with a diagnosed learning disability and/or ADHD. Conduct regular meetings with assigned student-athletes to assess individualized learning needs. Work individually with student-athletes on specific learning strategies and on enhancing academic skill development. Conduct screening assessments of incoming student-athletes to determine whether further testing is needed. Assist with the process of registering for and managing the use of academic accommodations with the Disability Resource Center. Assist students in goal setting, time management, organization, study skills and self-advocacy skills. Work as a team member with the Academic Support Services staff to provide coordinated services for student-athletes ensuring the highest levels of customer service and availability. Assist in the oversight of day-to-day operations of the CAVE daytime study hall program. Takes the lead role in insuring the tutorial and mentoring programs run in accordance with the academic integrity expectations of the University. Supervises the hiring, training, evaluation and dismissal of temporary academic support personnel and for communicating and enforcing departmental academic integrity expectations. Assist with tutor/mentor skills training. Ensure goals and objectives are met with strict adherence to NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and University requirements.

What You'll Be Doing:
- Work with at-risk student-athletes, including those with a diagnosed learning disability and/or ADHD.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with assigned student-athletes to assess individualized learning needs.
- Work individually with student-athletes on specific learning strategies and on enhancing academic skill development.
- Provide student-athletes with tools for skill remediation such as improving reading ability and developing learning strategies.
- Provide each student-athlete with the strategy that works best for him or her and how to best use the strategy.
- Write weekly objectives for students to reference.
- Assist in the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the CAVE study hall program.
- Design and implement student-athlete sessions or workshops to address goal setting, time management, organization, study skills and self-advocacy skills.
- Assist with CAVE tutor/mentor skills training.
- Review student progress regularly with the academic support services staff the progress and/or issues for assigned at-risk student-athletes.
- Takes the lead role in insuring the tutorial and mentoring programs run in accordance with the academic integrity expectations of the University.
- Responsible for monitoring completion of training videos for new tutors and mentors.
- Send ongoing reminders regarding academic integrity, particularly during mid-terms and final examination periods.
- Report any issues with student-athletes to the respective sport academic advisor.
- Responsible for submitting payroll through Success Factors.
- Serve as the liaison to Disability Resource Center (DRC) and assist with the process of registering for and managing the use of academic accommodations with the DRC.
- Monitor the arrangement and use of these accommodations in all classes as appropriate & necessary.
- Conduct screening assessments of incoming student-athletes to determine whether further testing is needed.
- Evaluate current student-athletes to determine necessity of testing for learning disabilities and/or ADHD.

What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, School Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counseling or in related field
- Education Specialist degree or a Master's in one of the above areas preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with at-risk students
- Considerable experience (4-7 years) working with at-risk students in a collegiate environment is preferred
- Equivalent education and experience will be considered
Skills needed:
- Computer proficient in Microsoft Office
- Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills with ability to relate well to others and constructively interact with a variety of people
- Ability to determine and discuss the reasons for referral, components of, and findings of educational testing
- Ability to match student learning needs with available resources to address the identified concerns
- Knowledge of a wide range of learning strategies and study skills development techniques and the ability to train students and staff in understanding and applying specific strategies to improve/enhance learning
- Working knowledge and accountability for NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and Purdue University regulations and submitting documentation as required to the Athletics Compliance Office
- Working knowledge of NCAA academic eligibility and recruiting rules/procedures
Nice to have:
- Knowledge of collegiate academic structures / processes and the ability to lead and guide Division I student-athletes
