Senior Cooperative Education Programs Manager

Job Summary

The Senior Cooperative Education (Co-op) Programs Manager will lead efforts to enhance the Purdue Co-op Program by developing strategies and executing plans to increase student participation, develop co-op programs in new academic disciplines, liaise with discipline specific co-op coordinators, develop curriculum to better prepare students for work experiences, and assess student learning outcomes.

 

Major responsibilities are to:

  • recruit students for participation in the co-op program by developing and making presentations to classes, student organizations, and call-outs

  • organize the Office of Professional Practice's (OPP) participation at information fairs and other opportunities to engage students on the importance of gaining work experience

  • provide messaging for and input on marketing material, social media posts, and website information related to the co-op program.  This includes the strategy development for outreach via social media and the management of the production and ordering of print material.

  • supervise student workers and volunteers

  • serve as the Advisor to the Professional Practice Ambassadors (PPA) student organization

  • liaise with discipline specific co-op coordinators to better promote the co-op program within the discipline and to troubleshoot student issues, improve the co-op placement process, and develop new features within the co-op program

  • gain an understanding of industry demands and Purdue academic programs. Engage with faculty, staff, and registrars office to develop programs in new academic disciplines to meet the demands of industry and students.

  • communicate with registrars office, bursars office, office of financial aid, housing, and other campus units to better track and acknowledge program completion, provide relevant information to students, and improve the overall co-op experience

  • deliver presentations to faculty coordinators, alumni, and employers

  • maintain an understanding of best practices in career readiness training and design curriculum and other programming to help enhance students’ ability to obtain co-ops and internships, as well as to maximize student’s experience in academically related work experiences

  • serve as the Primary instructor for ENGR 103 Introduction to Professional Practice in Engineering

  • serve as instructor of record for co-op experience courses

  • collaborate with Associate Director and co-op coordinators to develop and enhance post co-op experience seminar courses

  • collaborate with OPP team to coordinate “Milestone” workshops designed to enhance student’s technical skills and knowledge.  Liaise with industry partners to create industry driven technical training opportunities on campus.

  • collect, maintain, and report on data associated with student co-op experiences

Required:
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education and Students Affairs, Human Resource Management, or a field relevant to student service and career readiness training
  • Two (2) years of program or project management experience
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills for relating effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, university staff, alumni, and employers
  • Proven experience in planning and executing both small and large-scale events
  • Ability to professionally plan, execute, and manage relationships with students, faculty, industry, government, and community constituents
  • Develop and maintain databases, presentations, and marketing/communications content
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to work comfortably and effectively in independent and group scenarios on various initiatives
  • Ability to generate and maintain social media and website content, including events calendar
  • Proficiency in using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) or other workforce/career services management software
  • Experience as an intern or co-op student
  • Teaching and mentorship experience
