The College of Science seeks an academic advising professional who will contribute to exemplary advising services for Computer Science students at our Purdue West Lafayette location. College of Science advising is predicated on the belief that individualized relationships set the stage for student success and high advisor impact and satisfaction. As an Academic Advisor you will promote an inclusive environment that challenges and supports students by providing meaningful opportunities for student learning, development, and integration of curricular and co-curricular experiences. Advisors empower students to be active, responsible learners while guiding students to make well-informed decisions that lead to achieving students' educational, career, and life goals.

Key Responsibilities:
• Foster an equity-minded, student-centered advising environment
• Empower students to become active, informed participants in their education
• Advise students on course selection, registration, and degree requirements
• Connect students with campus programs, services, and opportunities
• Maintain regular communication and conduct data-informed outreach
• Refer students to appropriate campus resources as needed
• Educate students on university structures, policies, and best practices
• Ensure compliance with university policies and maintain confidentiality
• Collaborate with faculty and staff on student success and retention initiatives

Advisors receive real-time feedback and training, including mentoring experience.

- Must have an earned graduate or professional degree in a field relevant to the position

Skills Required:
- Demonstrated commitment to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook
- Ability to:
- problem solve and utilize campus resources for individuals and groups
- willingness to work in a changing environment

Preferred:
- Knowledge of:
- undergraduate student development and recruitment
- programs and majors at Purdue University
- field related to majors advised
