Academic Advisor / Senior Academic Advisor

Job Summary

This posting may be filled at the Academic Advisor or Senior Academic Advisor level.  The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.


The Academic Advisor will support the Department of Mechanical Engineering within the College of Engineering.  Responsibilities include advising current students and meeting with prospective students and their families; participating in student recruitment activities; and coordinating the planning and evaluation of student events. The academic advisor plays a supportive role in strengthening the department’s efforts to provide quality advising and promote student success. The primary role of the academic advisor is to help transition students to the professional world by assisting them through the exploration of both personal and professional developmental opportunities. A successful advisor in this position builds meaningful relationships and provides a high level of customer service to students and campus partners.


P2 Level - Academic Advisor


  • Master's degree
  • One (1) year of experience with student advising and recruitment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and parents
  • Ability to problem solve and utilize campus resources for individuals and groups
  • Ability and willingness to work in a changing environment
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint



  • Master's degree in Student Services, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or Marketing
  • Knowledge of undergraduate student recruitment and marketing
  • Knowledge of programs and majors at Purdue University
  • Proficient with social media platforms and publication software


P3 Level - Senior Academic Advisor

Required in Addition to P2 Level:

  • Three (3) years of experience with student advising and recruitment
