Administrative Assistant - School of Engineering Technology

The Administrative Assistant will help administer the research centers of Professor Richard Voyles, including the Purdue Robotics Accelerator and the NSF RoSe-HUB. The role of these centers and, therefore, the candidate, is to elevate the profile of robotics research and the training of innovators at Purdue, as well as to promote the national and international reputations of the researchers within the centers. The candidate is expected to manage administrative level support functions with limited supervision in order to maintain the effective operations of the centers as needed.

The candidate will  also have responsibility for event planning and delivery, including working with Purdue Conferences and other internal and external partners, federal grant related workshops and other outreach events. Assist with managing budgets, act as liaison with the business office, and exercise budgetary and signature authority over office and lab expenditures. Provide and oversee paper and electronic information management functions including drafting reports of those functions. Interpret and provide policy and practice information to internal and external customers. Evaluate, initiate and independently develop solutions to problems for supervisor review. May create and administer office procedures. May attend and take notes at meetings with superior. May have administrative supervision over student staff (include training). May perform other duties as necessary to help accomplish unit goals, both administrative and in support of grant-supported projects, including interfacing with internal and external partners with some autonomy.  May generate leads for contact with high-value external stakeholders.


  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three years of experience in office, clerical or secretarial work
  • Proficient word processing, spreadsheet, calendaring and internet skills.
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, verbal and written communication skills, including note-taking skills 
  • Ability to work independently and apply discretion to forecast, manage and complete projects
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to influence and build successful working relationships amongst a diverse workforce at all levels through teamwork in daily work activities 
  • Must have a learning orientation to changing technology and business processes 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively that may require analysis, while providing excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to research, create, disseminate and effectively report
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
