Job Summary

The E-Learning Project Manager will provide strategic support for the Agronomy Department’s and college’s efforts to grow its online education presence.  Under general supervision, you will work independently to implement key day-to-day activities and participate in strategic direction and prioritization. You will manage key projects, including but not limited to running online classes; supporting students; updating current class materials and assisting in the creation of new curriculum; coordinating marketing and communications efforts; and grant writing support.  In addition, you will complete assessments to evaluate and integrate change to enhance processes and procedures ensuring continued success as well as support other projects in which the Agronomy eLearning director is engaged, such as the current AI-LEAF education project.  

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Organizing, assigning and following up on tasks in production of courses
  • Teaming with faculty in the program development process including educational program flow and design and linking education content and program objectives with the objectives of our participating companies
  • Maintaining course materials so they are functional and operable for a range of student needs, including access from various online browsers and from a variety of devices such as personal computers, tablets, and smart phones
  • Interacting with Teaching and Learning Technologies to keep abreast of technology changes and engage their support with accessibility and functionality issues
  • Working with the Purdue Online Course Production team for instructional design and video production needs in the development and maintenance of new and existing online programs
  • Motivating prospective students to enroll and fostering positive relationships with students to enhance their experience and their learning
  • Familiarizing students with online learning processes
  • Evaluating student progress and completion and communicate with students
  • Tabulating student course evaluations after each offering and report the results for possible curriculum revisions
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with corporate partners, including key clients with the goal of developing new program opportunities and custom offerings as well as selling existing courses
  • Writing proposals directed at industry customers and other funding organizations and building budgets that meet the customer’s needs and covering the full cost of resources
  • Developing relationships with targeted key clients in an in-depth way so that the organizational structure, business challenges, competitive environment, and the role of key decision makers is understood and used to sell, develop and implement educational program efforts
  • Utilizing a keen understanding of the marketplace, the organization and educational objectives
  • Working with clients on evaluation of program impact with limited travel to meet with potential and current clients
  • Assisting Director with projects associated with Agronomy e-Learning such as with the AI Institute for Land, Economy, Agriculture & Forestry (AI-LEAF), as subgrant of the University of Minnesota, Institute for Digital Agriculture and Advanced Systems (IDAAS) at Purdue, data science classes, with pre-college audiences, undergraduate students, and graduate students
  • Developing marketing and promotion for e-learning course offerings
  • Understanding content and program objectives in order to compose materials that demonstrate program benefits to industry 
  • Maintaining Agronomy's linkages with clientele such as securing faculty and staff and Agronomy course information placement in the trade press; monitoring the state of the art in adult education, e-learning and distance learning; exploring new ways of evaluating program impact, etc
  • Supporting the Agronomy eLearning website and events calendar by updating and reviewing content to ensure accurate and timely information
  • Keeping track of income, spending, and balances in various funds, including those associated with various courses, grants, and other projects
  • Working with business offices within the College to ensure timely payment of invoices and the correct usage of funding sources and accounts

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelors degree in education, agriculture, business, or related field
  • 2 years of relevant work experience in education or project management
  • Strong oral/written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently on multiple concurrent projects, meet deadlines, assume responsibility, demonstrate creativity and initiative, and bring projects to a successful completion
  • Demonstrate independent thinking and decision-making, organization, flexibility, and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate and work with faculty and staff at all levels, as well as external constituents such as industry executives and managers
  • Must be a self-starter with a strong curiosity to learn new technologies and constantly evolve on the job
  • Ability to adapt to tasks that will change over the course of the year
  • Knowledge of education such as learning objectives, instructional methods, student engagement, and assessment
  • Ability to compile, organize, retrieve and disseminate technical information
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), virtual meeting software (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, WebEx), and cloud storage platforms (SharePoint, Google, Box, OneNote, etc.), as well as other platforms such as IBM Cognos Analytics, Qualtrics, Cascade, Adobe Creative Cloud, Camtasia, and Airtable
  • Knowledge of course management software such as Brightspace D2L
  • Video editing knowledge, and basic knowledge of Articulate Rise are pluses
  • Knowledge of University procedures, regulations and policies

Nice to Have:

  • Master’s degree
  • Agricultural production knowledge/experience
  • Experience in designing and developing online education
