Animal Care Technician
Job Summary
S1: This position will share the responsibility to monitor and maintain cleanliness of both Large and Small Animal Hospital facilities using established cleaning and disinfection protocols. Provide animal care when directed, including feeding, watering, changing bedding, cleaning cages/runs and exercising. Perform record keeping tasks as necessary.
S2: Monitor and maintain the physical and environmental conditions of animals both large and small in a research or clinical setting. Feed, water, groom, bathe, exercise, and provide other types of care to ensure animal welfare. Evaluate the general condition of animals, and collect and record data. Clean and maintain animals Husbandry environments; order and stock supplies; follow approved protocols and standard operating procedures.
Both S1 and S2 employees will share responsibility to cover co-workers’ areas during vacations/leave time. Will also share in holiday coverage rotation in the Small Animal Hospital.
This is a second shift position; hours are 4pm to 12:30 am Monday - Friday. Pay starts at $15/hour, with a $0.45 shift differential. New PVH employees are also eligible for a sign on bonus.
Required, S1:
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to read, write, and comprehend verbal and written instructions
- Must be able to read, write and understand English
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers
- Excellent customer service skills
- Must be organized, and possess good time management skills with the ability to prioritize
- Capable of promoting good teamwork and work without close supervision while producing high quality work
- Must be able to maintain a good attendance record
- Ability to promote a safe working environment and to ensure that all safety procedures are followed
- Must be able to lift and carry 10 to 25 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally
Preferred:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Custodial experience
- Hospital cleaning experience
- Knowledge and skills specific to floor care
- Animal handling experience
Required, S2:
- HS Diploma/GED
- 2 years custodial experience and 1 year animal handling required.
