Animal Care Technician

Job Summary

 

Purdue Veterinary Hospital (PVH) is hiring Animal Care Technicians to support our brand new David and Bonnie Brunner Purdue Veterinary Medical Hospital Complex. Monitor and maintain the physical and environmental conditions of animals both large and small in a research or clinical setting. Feed, water, groom, bathe, exercise, and provide other types of care to ensure animal welfare. Evaluate the general condition of animals, and collect and record data. Clean and maintain animal environments; order and stock supplies; follow approved protocols and standard operating procedures. 24/7 coverage in the Veterinary Hospital is needed and employees should expect to be flexible in order to meet that need.

 

Required:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 3 years of work experience
  • Must be able to read/write English
  • Ability to work without close supervision
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Must be able to operate power tools
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 to 80 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Must be comfortable working around small and large animal species: may include, but not limited to dogs/cats/horses/cattle/goats/sheep/llamas
  • Valid US or Canadian driver's license

 

Preferred:

  • Custodial experience
  • Large animal handling experience
  • Forklift experience
