Aquatic Ecology Research Scientist

Job Summary

The Aquatic Ecology Research Scientist will support and lead various Great Lakes aquatic ecology research projects. In this role, you will be responsible for study design, laboratory sample analyses, data management and analyses, presentations, reporting and manuscript preparation. In addition, the position will contribute to Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant’s aquatic ecology outreach program and on-campus engagement. Additional duties will include:

 

  • Oversee laboratory management (ichthyoplankton, invertebrate, fish) priorities
  • Train and supervise student researchers for laboratory processing
  • Collaborate with PI and contribute to planning of research objectives, design and coordination of field, laboratory and experimental studies
  • Adapt and update procedures to design research that contribute to meeting project goals
  • Data management and analyses leading to research and management recommendations, including autonomy to make minor changes in systems / processes based upon findings
  • Prepare reports, manuscripts and oral presentations
  • Development and delivery of outreach programming and coordination related to Great Lakes aquatic ecology, including on-campus engagement, workshops, fact sheets, web-content and social media

Required:

  • Master's degree in Fisheries, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Sciences, or related field
  • Strong background with statistical analyses and experimental design
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify aquatic organisms
  • Interest and ability to effectively communicate to non-scientific audiences
  • Travel

 

Preferred:

  • PhD
  • Familiarity with research on fisheries and aquatic ecology
