What You'll be Doing:
The Assistant Beef Manager is a skilled professional who works under general supervision to support the operations of the Beef Unit, a vital resource for the department's research, teaching, and engagement missions.
In this role, you'll help coordinate research projects with faculty, staff, students, and investigators while supporting hands-on instruction in classes and laboratory activities. You'll also assist with outreach and engagement efforts, including conducting tours of the Beef Unit for a variety of audiences.
The Assistant Beef Manager plays a key role in training, mentoring, and supervising student employees, helping to ensure safe and efficient daily operations. In partnership with the Beef Manager, you'll assist with the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment, develop and modify animal handling equipment to improve research capabilities and operational efficiency, and respond effectively to emergency situations such as power outages, equipment failures, severe weather, animal health concerns, and workplace injuries.

What Were Looking For:
Education and Experience
Qualified Candidates Will Need:
- Bachelor of Science in Animal Science or closely related field
- 2+ years of beef industry experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered (HS diploma and six to seven years of experience)
- Experience with animal care and husbandry is also required
Skills Needed:
- Ability to lift over 80 lbs.
- Basic Computer Skills using Outlook, Excel, Google Docs, etc.
- Strong communication skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to provide good customer service, demonstrating a strong service orientation
- Public relations skills to work congenially with the public and staff, display a good-natured and competitive attitude
- Self-directed with ability to work independently as well as with others
- Personnel leadership and management, facility knowledge and maintenance, excellent communication and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work in extreme cold and heat for extended periods
- A valid U.S. driver’s license is required
