Assistant Director, Training

Job Summary

The Assistant Director, Training, has three overarching areas of responsibility.  The first is the responsibility to provide a vision for, ongoing administration of, and leadership in the area of Training, which includes CAPS’ APA-approved doctoral internship, the practicum program, and the Psychology Resident. The second responsibility for administrative supervision and oversight for a subgroup of CAPS’ therapists.  This includes serving as a core member of the agency’s Leadership Team.  The third general area of responsibility is to provide services to students, certainly in the realm of Clinical Services, also in Outreach and Consultation, and via the provision of clinical supervision (to trainees or unlicensed staff).
Required:

  • Doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-approved program, with successful completion of a one-year doctoral internship, preferably from an APA-approved internship program
  • Three years of experience as a generalist therapist 
  • Doctoral psychology internship may be considered in lieu of one year of experience
  • Experience in the provision of supervision for doctoral interns and practicum students 
  • Strong general therapy skills with clear interest and experience in the college population, as well as in issues of diversity, social justice, and advocacy
  • Knowledge of, and adherence to, ethical, legal and professional standards of practice
  • Independent judgment and discretion are essential in all aspects of this job
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to function well as part of a collaborative team
  • Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to provide positive leadership and administrative leadership
  • Ability to relate well to students, other staff, faculty, and other members of the University community

Preferred:

  • Five years of experience as a generalist therapist 
  • Experience in all facets of work as a counseling center mental health professional 
  • Clinical experience in a university counseling center with young adults
