Job Summary

Serve as Event Manager at athletic events for assigned Athletics teams.  Act as a liaison and first point of contact for officials and visiting teams.  Interpret, instruct, and effectively communicate complex event rules, regulations and guidelines to ensure events are played in a fair and interrupted manner.  Resolve game day complaints and problems.  Assist with management of Guest Services students & Game Operations as described below:

What You'll Be Doing:

Game Management

Serve as Event Manager at specified athletic events, including but not limited to:

    • Specific Olympic Sports
    • Revenue Sports Secondary
    • Big Ten & NCAA Postseason Events

Act as liaison and first point of contact for officials and visiting teams.

Collaborate and communicate with numerous athletic department areas and campus partners before, during and after the event to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Interpret, instruct, and effectively communicate complex rules, regulations, and guidelines to ensure sports events are played in a fair and uninterrupted manner, and safe environment for teams and spectators.

Determine appropriate resolution to game day complaints and problems.

Assist with the preparation of bidding materials for NCAA, Big Ten, and other conference tournaments and events.

 

Responsible for Assisting in Management of Guest Service Programs and Parking Operations as described below:

Guest Service Program

Develop and deliver game day briefings

Develop and deliver preseason training programs

Assist with guest recovery efforts

Oversee game day reward and recognition program

 

Parking Operations

 Assist in game day/special events towing logistics and enforcement of parking rules

Assist game day/special events bus and golf cart shuttles and contracts

Maintain positive relationship with parking software vendor

Assist in hiring, supervising, evaluating and terminating temporary non-student and student staff, as necessary, to provide professional game day services

 

Special Projects & Rentals

Work on other special projects and assignments

Manage external requests and events for facility usage

Assist with post season and championship events

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two (2) years’ experience of sport event planning, sports administration, scheduling Athletic events or related experience 
  • Prior high school or college coaching, officiating, playing, or student manager experience a plus but not required.
  • Degree in Sports Administration, Sports Management, Management or related field preferred.

 

Skills needed:

  • Ability to effectively communicate with coaches, student-athletes, administrators, staff, and parents; ability to plan and organize work ‎to meet established deadlines; ability to read, interpret, instruct, and effectively communicate complex rules, regulations, and guidelines (NCAA, Big Ten and Purdue University)
  • Must be able to demonstrate planning, problem-solving, project management, quality control, data collection, public relations, and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
  • Must be able to foster a participative supervisory style that utilizes teamwork principles to successfully guide the work of others
  • Must possess a learning orientation to changing technology impacting business/sport processes
  • Personal computer and related software skills, e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, Internet, etc., necessary
  • Valid Indiana driver license
