Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Recruiting strategy works under the direction of the Director of Recruiting (DR) and is responsible for planning and coordinating the recruitment of prospective student-athletes for the football program. In cooperation with the Head Coach and DR, she/he partners with the recruiting department and others on the coaching staff in developing recruiting strategies.

 

In coordination with the Assistant Director of Player Personnel, plans and executes on-campus visits, including official and unofficial visits, and events such as junior days, spring practices, and game days. Creates itineraries for prospective student-athletes for all unofficial and official visits, specifically tailoring the schedules for each prospects’ unique background, goals, and interests. Plans small- and large-scale events in a detail-oriented, creative way while implementing new and innovative ideas for on-campus recruiting.

 

The Assistant Director of Recruiting Strategy also is responsible for supporting the philosophy, goals, and mission of Purdue University and its Intercollegiate Athletics program as well as adherence to Departmental, University, Big Ten Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures as it relates to recruitment of prospective student-athletes.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Responsible for coordinating and executing on-campus visits, including official and unofficial visits such as junior days, spring practices, and game days. Creates itineraries for prospective student-athletes visits, specifically tailoring the schedules for each prospects’ unique background, goals, and interests. Communicates with the football coaching and support staffs on recruiting visit logistics, details, and meetings. Schedules meetings and coordinates timing based on staff needs.
  • Oversees tours for prospective student-athletes and trains all staff and current student-athletes who will encounter the prospects while visiting the University. Coordinates recruiting efforts for the offense or defense as assigned by Director of Player Personnel and plans small and large-scale events in a detail-oriented, creative way while implementing new and innovative ideas for on-campus recruiting.
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of B1G Conference and NCAA rules and regulations as it relates to recruiting.  Maintains the football recruiting database to keep track of visits, information gathered during visits, and what the prospective student-athletes have done during such visits. Inputs compliance forms pre and post visit for prospective student-athletes.
  • Monitors initial eligibility of incoming freshmen, works closely with high school counselors, clearinghouse and advisors to ensure student athletes prospects are academically eligible, and informs coaches regarding student athletes prospects SAT / ACT testing dates; ensures compliance with the scholarship count.  Partners with compliance to distribute application and monitor admissions into Purdue University; collects transcripts and test scores of prospective student-athletes.
  • Follows NCAA rules and regulations for official and unofficial visits, as well as communications and correspondence. 
  • Works with the Director of Player Personnel on the coordination of communication plans.
  • Serves as public relations and an information resource for events, meetings, committees and conferences. 
  • Conducts market research of assigned territories. Implements recruitment activities such as travel, tele-recruitment, online chats, and email campaigns. Coordinates the design, production, and mailings of all recruitment materials and information with the creative team.
  • In collaboration with the Director of High School Relations and Director of Player Personnel, manages (plans and schedules) all visits with High School Coaches regarding student-athletes’ practice dates. Creates the travel schedule for assistant coaches, ensuring efficient use of time and financial resources. Maintains a database for recruiting, summer camp records, correspondence, expense summaries, etc.
  • Works with other members of the admission staff on projects related to communications, on-campus recruitment programs, internal training, general or targeted recruitment activities, or other projects as needed.  
  • Assists in the hiring, training, supervising, and developing student interns.  
  • Performs other tasks assigned by the Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two (2) years related professional experience in student recruitment and/or working with a collegiate or professional football program

  • Must have proper knowledge and skills surrounding the sport of football.
