Job Summary
Productive individual who serves as primary and/or secondary facilities manager in the College of Veterinary Medicine. This individual will work alongside the Lead Facilities Manager and assist in serving 16 buildings in the PVM complex, Caesar’s Entertainment Equine Specialty Hospital in Shelbyville, IN, and Heeke Diagnostic Lab in southern Indiana. Serves as the point-of-contact for space management, maintenance, and renovation. Interface with department/unit leaders, physical facilities, EHS, and external contractors on building constructions, renovations, and safety-related projects.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Serve as the primary and/or secondary facilities contact for all Veterinary Medicine buildings.
- Act as Building Deputy for nine veterinary campus buildings, including the Veterinary Hospital.
- Coordinate building maintenance, repairs, utility shutdowns, and safety compliance with Physical Facilities and campus partners.
- Maintain daily communication with custodial staff regarding building conditions.
- Manage and annually update Building Emergency Plans and oversee routine OSHA compliance reporting.
- Manage safety and security for the West Lafayette Veterinary Medicine Complex, including access control, key systems, card access, and ID badges.
- Serve as Safety Chair for the College and coordinate annual Integrated Safety Plans.
- Request and coordinate additional security support through Purdue University Police Department as needed.
- Serve as backup to the PVM Lead Facilities Manager and assist with facilities planning and assessments.
- Serve as backup Building Deputy for ADDL, VPRB, and VPTH facilities.
The salary for this position will start around $55,000 per year, plus benefits.
What We’re Looking For:
Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:
- BA/BS degree in Construction Technology, OLS or related field
- 2 years of experience in facility management
- A combination of education and experience may also be considered
Skills needed:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, initiative, planning, organizational, project design and management, customer service skills
- The ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical and service manuals and the aptitude to overcome logistical and operational challenges
- Ability to design and maintain relevant data in a spreadsheet or database management system
- Subject to 24-hour callback for emergencies
What is helpful:
- Construction experience would be highly preferred
