The College of Science at Purdue University invites applications for multiple tenured/tenure-track faculty positions in Data Science applications in the Life Sciences at the Assistant or Associate Professor level beginning September 1, 2020. Assistant Professor candidates with exceptional qualifications may be considered for an early career endowed professorship.

Life Sciences at Purdue University

To foster collaborations across academic units and emphasize interdisciplinary we expect that most faculty hired through this search will have interdepartmental joint appointments (College of Science Departments hosting research related to the Life Sciences include: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics). We are seeking exceptional candidates with interdisciplinary interests in a wide range of topics that complement existing areas of strength within Purdue across the Life Sciences and Data Science. Areas of interest include but are not limited to the following:

  • Systems Biology
  • Genomics and Population Genomics

  • Macrosystems Ecology

Our vision is to be at the forefront of advancing Data Science-enabled research and education by tightly coupling theory, discovery, and applications while providing students with an integrated, Data Science-fluent campus ecosystem. Over the past five years alone, Purdue has attracted over 100 new tenure-track faculty with expertise in data science fundamentals and applications. At the same time Life Science research at Purdue is expanding rapidly supported by six Institutes including Purdue Institute for Integrative Neuroscience, Purdue Center for Cancer Research, Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering, Purdue Institute for Drug Discovery, Purdue Institute of Inflammation, Immunology and Infectious Disease and the Purdue Institute for Plant Science,

Application Process

We are seeking candidates who combine an outstanding record of research excellence with a commitment to effective and engaged teaching. Candidates must have a Ph.D. (or its equivalent) In a related field. Successful candidates are expected to develop a vibrant research program supported by extramural funding, teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses to a diverse student body, and supervise graduate students. Senior faculty will also mentor junior faculty and participate in the governance of their department, the College of Science, and Purdue University.
