Assistant Professor in Game Development and Design


At Purdue University, CGT is one of six units in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute. It offers the BS and MS in Computer Graphics Technology, and participates in the Polytechnic Institute PhD program. The Department of Computer Graphics Technology at Purdue University is seeking a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor on the West Lafayette, Indiana campus, beginning in August 2020. We grant Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degrees and are a world-renowned public land grant institution. We are a research-intensive department focused on applied research informed by close engagement with the games industry. Our program is technically oriented with post-graduation student placement primarily in the domains of programming, technical art, technical animation, and technical direction. Our alumni work successfully in the highest echelons of the games and animation industries.


Rank and Salary are commensurate with experience for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a 9-month appointment.


A terminal degree (Ph.D.) in a field related to games development and design. Focus areas may include: computer science, computer graphics, information science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, technology, game design, or other related disciplines. The candidate would have professional game development experience, and have demonstrable skills in some combination of programming, simulation, VFX, or game design, including within one of the major game engines (Unity, Unreal).


Commitment to teaching, scholarly activity and the building of an active research program are required. Demonstrating active learning pedagogies in a studio environment; scholarly research and funded activity for an active research program; teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, and mentoring students is expected. Applicants must be committed to all aspects of diversity in learning, discovery, and engagement. The candidate will be required to develop a vigorous research agenda engaged with industry and federal agencies, and teach a variety of courses including but not limited to game programming, system programming, game design, real-time rendering, simulation, and other technically oriented subjects in the games development and design curriculum.
