Job Summary
The School of Engineering Education at Purdue University invites applications for a full-time Professor of Engineering Practice (PEP) position at the Assistant or Associate level starting in Fall 2027. We seek an accomplished individual to help develop and grow our undergraduate degree programs in Multidisciplinary Engineering and Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies (MDE/IDES) and graduate programs in Engineering Education (certificate, MSENE, and PhD). The successful candidate will have unique opportunities to lead and support initiatives that are synergistic with our full range of academic programs and aligned with one or more focus areas, such as engineering design and design studies, the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), relating engineering education research to practice, and AI and STEM education. Consideration will also be given to how a candidate’s background and interests align with key MDE/IDES concentration and growth areas, such as systems engineering, complex product design and prototyping, technical program management, AI and digital tools in engineering practice, etc.
Professors of Engineering Practice bridge academia and other sectors by integrating real-world engineering practices and applied research into the classroom, fostering strategic industry and community partnerships, and driving practice-informed educational innovation. Candidates must hold a doctorate in engineering education or another relevant field, including but not limited to Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering, by the employment start date and have demonstrated independence in their profession. Candidates who have at least five years of experience in higher education and at least one other sector, such as an engineering industry, non-profit, or government, are particularly encouraged to apply. In addition to instructional and administrative duties, the successful candidate will work effectively with industry partners and faculty, mentor and advise students in our MSENE and graduate certificate programs, and perform service at the School and University levels as needed. The successful candidate may also have demonstrated skills in innovative pedagogical techniques, project/problem-based learning, online/remote learning, or program administration and leadership. This position is based in West Lafayette, and it is expected that the faculty member will teach and contribute to both of Purdue’s two main campus locations in West Lafayette and Indianapolis, IN.
