Assistant/Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering - Smart Building Systems

Job Summary

The School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate level. The School seeks to attract exceptional candidates with interests and expertise in smart, healthy, efficient, grid-integrated, sustainable, autonomous, and/or resilient buildings; associated building materials and equipment, including sensors, sensing systems, energy conversion systems and their components, such as compressors, and working fluids; and/or indoor air quality prediction, measurement and control. Competitive applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline and demonstrate excellent potential to build an independent research program. They must also demonstrate the potential to educate and mentor students, and be willing to perform professional service at the School, College, and University levels.  Excellent oral and written communication and grant writing skills are required. The successful candidate will conduct original research, advise graduate students, teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, and perform service at the School, College, and University levels. Candidates with experience working with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff and possessing the ability to contribute to an inclusive climate are particularly encouraged to apply. 


The School of Mechanical Engineering is deeply committed to the land-grant mission, which calls for a proactive balancing of teaching, research, and service. The School includes more than 90 faculty members, approximately 1500 undergraduate students, and nearly 750 graduate students. Currently, the School is ranked 7th for undergraduate programs (4th amongst public universities) and 8th for graduate programs (5th amongst public universities) by U.S. News and World Report.
