Job Title:  BKC Counselor - Student Service

Job Summary

The Boiler Kids Camp Counselor will be responsible for the safety and well-being of campers during camp operational hours. They will assist the Head Counselors, BKC Coordinators, and Assistant Director of Camps with implementing daily activities and games designed to develop social, physical, and intellectual skills. 

Pay: $11/hour

Schedule

  • Camp will take place June 3-July 26, with no camp the week of July 1-5. 

  • Training week: May 28-31, 8am-4pm 

  • Anticipated hours: Up to 35 hours  

  • Shifts will occur Monday-Friday between 7:30am and 5:30pm. Weekly staff meetings will be on Thursdays from 5:30-6:15pm. All vacation time must be submitted before the start of camp. 

Qualifications

  • Valid American Red Cross CPR & AED for the Professional Rescuer, Standard First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens certification or ability to obtain upon hire 

  • Valid Working with Minors Certification through Purdue University or ability to obtain upon hire 

  • Valid Climbing Wall Belay Certification or ability to obtain upon hire 

  • Must be able to attend all training days 

Responsibilities/Job Duties

  • Supervise children ranging from 5 years old to 12 years old in age specific groups throughout the course of the summer 

  • Serve as role models for campers 

  • Actively participate in all camp activities 

  • Encourage campers to participate in all camp activities 

  • Organize and lead small and large group activities 

  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with other counselors 

  • Inform the Coordinators and Assistant Director of Camps of any problems, issues, or concerns 

  • Appropriately respond to and resolve camper behavioral issues 

  • Acknowledge and support staff and campers with unique and differing backgrounds and needs 

Knowledge/Skills

  • Communication skills (campers, parents/guardians, supervisors, co-workers) 

  • Organizational skills (attendance, daily schedule) 

  • Leadership skills, self-starter and takes initiative for the betterment and safety of all campers 

  • Preferred applicants will have experience in youth activities and/or summer camps
