Behavioral Health Specialist

Job Summary

This position serves as a Behavioral Health Specialists for Purdue Extension in the College of Health and Human Sciences. This position is instrumental in the development, delivery and outcomes related to community-based educational programming efforts by Extension that are focused on mental/behavioral health issues as well as project management and oversight to educational initiatives at the statewide level. Also, providing expertise for mental health and substance misuse for the purposes of offering evidence-based, community-based educational programming across the state; provide professional development opportunities for staff as it related to behavioral health issues; become certified as a Mental Health First Aid facilitator to deliver this certification program to Indiana residents


  • Master’s Degree in psychology, social work, public health, mental health counseling, or related field
  • Minimum one year experience in mental health, behavioral health field, or provision of education on mental/behavioral health in a community-based setting 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Microsoft Excel/spreadsheet and accounting skills
  • Understanding of behavioral/mental health and substance use disorders
