Business Assistant - Payroll

Job Summary

Purdue University and the Purdue Polytechnic department are looking for a motivated individual who can efficiently multi-task, work under pressure, handle frequent interruptions, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines to provide support and perform business assistant duties for the business operations office within Purdue Polytechnic. As the Business Assistant there will be a need to be responsible for the operations center's monthly/bi-weekly payroll and handling day-to-day duties within the payroll office. Prepare and submit appropriate documents to assist in the onboarding process for new employees. Act as a liaison between customers and central offices. Serve as a departmental resource person to train and assist staff with payroll processes and resolve situational problems.


Hybrid work will be considered for this position based on the candidate’s location and interest



  • High school diploma / GED
  • Three or more years of payroll experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to practice good time management and organizational skills and multi-task required
  • Must demonstrate a willingness to learn and use own initiative to explore capabilities to enhance productivity and assume responsibility
  • The ability to make sound judgments and observe confidentiality at all times is essential 
  • Strong verbal and written communication with skills
  • Must have the ability to explain policies and procedures to staff 
  • Ability to handle interruptions while meeting deadlines with accurate results and providing exceptional customer service
  • Ability to problem-solve and analyze complex issues 



  • University experience
  • Experience with SAP and Success Factors
