Job Summary
The Business Manager will direct the management of the finances and business office support for administrative services, auxiliary services - including Airport and Purdue Memorial Union, campus planning/architecture/sustainability and capital asset with annual, weighted operating expenditures in the range of $40M. This position will play a key role in the preparation of financial and management reports to support long-range planning forecasts; budget recommendations, planning, and analysis; and financial analysis and strategic financial management of the department.
Responsibilities Include:
- Serve as the resource/liaison for assigned area to the central offices.
- Provide proper interpretation of University, Federal, State, and sponsoring agency policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate closely with central business service operations and other related third-party entities in meeting the strategic goals of the University.
- Serve as mentor and key resource person to peers within the business office.
- Maintain a unit that provides excellent business management support to the department Executive Leadership, Directors, Managers, staff, and students.
- Supervise a staff member in the business office and provide leadership/guidance/support as needed.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance or related field of study.
- Two years of business administration, financial management, or related experience.
Skills Needed:
- Ability to analyze, interpret, implement and communicate University policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent planning, problem-solving, analytical, organizational, project management, financial analysis, supervisory, and customer service skills.
- Ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels.
- Must be able to foster a participative supervisory style that utilizes accountability, respect and teamwork to successfully guide the work of others.
- Must possess a learning orientation to changing technology impacting business processes, e.g. SAP, etc.
- Proficient in following software: Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Demonstrate originality, creativity, and ability to resolve complex issues on a daily basis.
What’s Helpful:
- Six credit hours of accounting coursework.
- Demonstrated knowledge of sponsor and University regulations.
- Basic proficiency in all technical and professional skills related to business office and contract grant management.
- Knowledge of SAP, Cognos and Banner.

The anticipated annual rate for this position is $64,940 commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience. The final salary offer will be determined based on a variety of factors, including equity, available budget, educational background, and relevant experience.
