Business Manager, Facilities Operations

Job Summary

Purdue University Administrative Operations is looking for a person with excellent planning, leadership, budgeting, financial analysis, problem-solving, organizational project management, and customer service skills to become the next Senior Business Manager of Facilities Operations. The Business Manager will direct the management of the finances and business office support for Grounds, Building Services, and Operations & Maintenance with annual operating expenditures in the range of $75M. Serve as the resource/liaison for the Department to the College and central offices. Provide proper interpretation of University, Federal, State, and sponsoring agency policies, and procedures. Collaborate closely with central business service operations and other related entities in meeting the University's strategic goals.  This position will play a key role in the preparation of financial and management reports to support long-range planning forecasts; budget recommendations, planning, and analysis; and financial analysis and strategic financial management of the unit. Lead special projects and initiatives in collaboration with the Assistant Director or Director of Financial Affairs. Responsible for developing and implementing specialist reports to support short- and long-range forecasting and making budget recommendations.  Serve as a backup for Infrastructure Assistant Director of Business and Finance. Serve as a mentor and key resource person to peers within the Business Office. Maintain a unit that provides excellent business management support to Department Heads, Directors, faculty, staff, and students. Supervision responsibilities may be added in the future as needed.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, or a related field of study
  • Four (4) years of business administration, financial management, or related experience
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and implement policies and procedures.  
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and prepare complex data analysis and present data according to user requirements
  • Excellent planning, leadership, budgeting, financial analysis, problem-solving, organizational project management, and customer service skills.  
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels.  
  • Must possess a learning orientation to changing technology impacting business processes, e.g. SAP, etc.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Demonstrate originality, creativity, and ability to resolve complex issues daily

 

Preferred:

  • Higher Education experience
  • Six credit hours of accounting coursework desired
  • A demonstrated knowledge of sponsor and University regulations and basic proficiency in all technical and professional skills related to business office and contract grant management
  • Knowledge of SAP, Cognos, and Banner
