Clerk, Medical Reception

Job Summary

What will you be doing as a Clerk at Purdue University Student Health Center?

  • Check in and check out patients for appointments and walk-in visits. 
  • Assign patients to appropriate provider. 
  • Operate multi-line switchboard, answering calls from parents, patients, providers, PUSH staff, etc. 
  • Confirm caller’s eligibility to receive services and make appointment with provider most appropriate for patient’s needs. 
  • Interact with patients at check-out area to review billing statements, accept payments and bill charges to patient or insurance company. 
  • Review and authorizes all charges. 
  • Collect payments as necessary. 
  • Balance cash drawer daily.

 

Required:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Three years of experience in a clerical or administrative role.
  • Ability to work independently under limited supervision.
  • Perform tasks that are typically not routine and may be required to apply discretion within established operational boundaries.
  • Ability to problem solve independently and resolve issues.
  • Must be able to communicate with contacts on matters of moderate importance to the organization;
  • Knowledge of operational systems and practices.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience in a medical office setting.
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability.

  • This vacancy represents a 9 month, AY position. 
  • Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization for this position
  • Occasional overtime may be required
  • A Background Check will be required for employment in this position
  • FLSA:  Non-Exempt (Eligible for Overtime)
