Job Summary

At the front desk, you will greet visitors at the lab, assist with sign-in and parking permits, and help clients with sample drop-off. You will also prepare submission forms, take payments, and create case numbers for submitted samples. Explaining policies and procedures for sample testing, screening client requests, and contacting necessary personnel at the lab are key duties. Additionally, you will communicate with clients via email, adding additional testing, confirming the arrival of samples when requested, or forwarding emails to the appropriate personnel. Assisting students during their Diagnostic Medicine Block Rotation at the lab is also part of the role.

 

On the phones, your general responsibilities include answering incoming calls to the Diagnostic Lab, calling clinics and/or owners for more information, taking messages, and transferring calls as needed. In both roles, maintaining confidentiality per ADDL policies is crucial. You will need to use critical thinking to find alternative solutions for upset clients and perform a variety of miscellaneous duties as assigned. This position involves cross-training with other roles in the Accessioning Department and attending monthly section meetings with the department.

 

About us:
The Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) at the Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine, located in West Lafayette, IN. The ADDL is a full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory that serves the state of Indiana by providing both routine and regulatory diagnostic services to support Indiana veterinarians, animal health officials, livestock producers and animal owners.

 

This position could be filled at multiple levels (S1 or S2). The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.

 

What We’re Looking For:
Education and Experience

Qualified candidates will need:

 

  • High School Diploma/GED

 
 

Minimum Experience S1:

  • Six months to one year of clerical experience in a medical clinic/veterinary office or two years of customer service experience

 

Minimum Experience S2:

  • Three years of clerical or customer service experience

 

Preferred:

  • Three years of clerical experience in a medical clinic/veterinary office
