Job Summary

Position: The Department of Comparative Pathobiology (CPB) and the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine are seeking a full-time (12-month) Veterinary Anatomic Pathologist and Immunodiagnostics Section Head. ADDL is a full-service, AAVLD-accredited, NAHLN Level 2 diagnostic laboratory. The Immunodiagnostics Section performs diagnostic tests for antibody and virus detection from clinical specimens. There are twelve board-certified pathologists in the CPB department, with seven participating in the diagnostic efforts of the ADDL.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • Board certification or eligibility by the American or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP or ECVP)
  • MS or PhD in immunology, virology, or closely related field.
  • Two years of experience in veterinary diagnostics with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, laboratory staff, and other stakeholders aligned with the mission of the diagnostic laboratory and department.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnostic Service - Serve as Section Head of the Immunodiagnostics Laboratory, providing scientific leadership and oversight of fiscal management, quality assurance, and diagnostic service activities, while maintaining engagement with clients and stakeholders to ensure the laboratory meets their needs. Perform diagnostic pathology duties, including necropsies and biopsies with histopathologic examinations of these cases, writing reports, and consultation with clinical veterinarians, producers, and owners.
  • Teaching – The successful candidate is expected to contribute to teaching/training in the Anatomic Pathology Residency program and DVM program. Additional opportunities for teaching exist in the Veterinary Technology program, and the Clinical Pathology, Microbiology, and Laboratory Animal Medicine residency programs.
  • Research – Maintain a program of scholarly activities, which may include participation in collaborative research, providing continuing education/outreach to ADDL constituencies, presentations at local, regional, and/or national meetings, and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Academic service is expected to include but is not limited to departmental, college, and university committees; professional organizations; and editorial or grant review panels.
