Job Summary

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), Equine Field Service section invites applications for a full-time (100%, 12 month) Clinical or Tenure-Track position in Equine Ambulatory Medicine at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.  The successful candidate will join an established ambulatory team consisting of two board certified veterinarians, two veterinary technicians, a veterinary assistant, and a receptionist.  The Equine Field Service section has access to two stocked trucks, ultrasound units, digital radiography, endoscopy, power dental equipment, extracorporeal shockwave unit, centrifuge for preparation of PRP and Pro-Stride, and computerized medical records.  In addition, the equine ambulatory practice has the support of and access to all the resources of the fully accredited Purdue University Veterinary Hospital, clinical pathology laboratory, and the Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory.  This includes but is not limited to lameness locator, high speed treadmill, and an in-house CT and MRI units.  There is also ample opportunity to collaborate and consult with in-house, board-certified specialists in surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, oncology, neurology, and anesthesia.  The caseload is approximately 2500 cases per year and is composed mainly of recreational and sport horses.  The PVM is highly supportive of individual faculty career growth and development.  A formal faculty mentoring program is in place.

Qualifications

Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree, ability to practice as a licensed and accredited veterinarian in Indiana, and equine ambulatory or clinical experience (minimum of one year of experience).  

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will actively participate in the discovery, learning, and engagement missions of the PVM and VCS department.  Important activities include: Clinical: Providing outstanding clinical service to Veterinary Teaching Hospital patients primarily in an ambulatory setting; building strong relationships with equine clientele and referring veterinarians; teaching and supervising veterinary students, veterinary technician students, and house officers (typical time commitment: 30 -50% Tenure Track and 60-70% Clinical Track);. Learning: Excellent clinical, didactic and laboratory instruction of DVM students, veterinary technician students, and house officers. Service and Engagement: Participation in committee work, professional organizations, delivery of continuing education, and other appropriate activities. Discovery: Opportunities for collaborations with other researchers participating in clinical research projects which support the discovery activities of the PVM. A tenure-track faculty member is expected to drive their own research program. The successful candidate will participate in a shared on-call emergency service that is shared with other faculty.  Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital recently completed a major expansion project. The new David and Bonnie Brunner Equine Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility covering over 73,000 square feet, including an outpatient center, intensive care unit, advanced imaging (standing CT, MRI, nuclear medicine and radiology), surgical and theriogenology facilities.
