Clinical Assistant Professor, Large Animal ECC

Job Summary

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for a full-time (12 month) Clinical Assistant Professor position in Large Animal Emergency and Critical Care (LA ECC).


Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent, and board certification or completion of either a large animal internal medicine residency program registered with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Large Animal) or a large animal surgery residency program registered with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A background check is required for employment by the University.

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital recently completed a major expansion project. Encompassing 162,500 square feet, the new David and Bonnie Brunner Purdue Veterinary Medical Hospital Complex includes three components located just east of the Lynn Hall of Veterinary Medicine:

  1. The David and Bonnie Brunner Equine Hospital, a new state-of-the-art facility covering over 73,000 square feet, including an outpatient center, intensive care unit, advanced imaging (standing CT, MRI, nuclear medicine and radiology), surgical and theriogenology facilities.
  2. The David and Bonnie Brunner Farm Animal Hospital, a 24,000 square foot building offering comprehensive farm animal medical and surgical care.
  3. The David and Bonnie Brunner Small Animal Hospital (adding 65,000 square feet to the existing small animal hospital facilities in Lynn Hall).

The new complex provides state of the art teaching facilities dedicated to educating the next generation of veterinary professionals, enabling faculty to provide top quality compassionate animal health care, and serve as a catalyst for interdisciplinary clinical research.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will actively participate in the discovery, learning and engagement missions of the PVM and VCS Department. Important activities include providing 60 - 70% clinical service to equine and farm animal patients (emergency caseload comprised of 55% equine and 45% farm animals), building strong relationships with clientele and referring veterinarians, and teaching and supervising veterinary students, veterinary nursing students, and house officers. The position is flexible with respect to primary daytime or after hours coverage and will be shared with other hospital clinicians. Oversight and organization of the LA ECC after hours student rotation are expected. Establishment of a residency and/or fellowship program in LA ECC is encouraged.
