Clinical Assist Professor / Assistant Clinic Director, Clinical Psychology Program

Job Summary

The Department of Psychological Sciences at Purdue University invites applications for a full-time, academic year (9-month) non-tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor position with an anticipated start date in the Fall of 2022. This person would also serve as the Assistant Director of the Purdue Psychology Treatment and Research Clinics. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to training in a research-focused, clinical science doctoral program in a position that combines clinical supervision, teaching, and involvement in supporting the Department’s research mission.

Primary responsibilities of the position include directly supervising clinical training in empirically-supported assessment and intervention for children, adolescents, and families. Opportunities for supervision of adult-focused assessment and therapy are also possible. The successful candidate will provide didactic instruction and ongoing, direct clinical supervision to doctoral students, as well as formal evaluation of students’ developing clinical competencies. As Assistant Director of the Purdue Psychology Treatment and Research Clinics (PPTRC; https://www.purdue.edu/hhs/psy/pptrc/index.html), this person will have latitude in identifying the direction of the clinic’s aims in a way that balances the training needs of our students with the needs of the community we serve. This faculty member may also contribute to undergraduate or graduate teaching in courses focused on various topics in clinical psychology.


The successful candidate must have a doctoral degree (i.e., Ph.D., Psy.D.) and appropriate training in clinical psychology or an affiliated field (e.g., counseling psychology). The successful candidate must be licensed by the State of Indiana and credentialed as a Health Service Provider in Psychology (HSPP), or prepared to acquire these credentials as a condition of ongoing employment. Prior experience providing formal supervision is highly desirable but not required. Specific area of specialization is open, however, successful candidates will have demonstrated commitment to evidence-based assessment and therapy practices, as well as an empirically-informed approach to supervision. Expertise in cognitive and/or neuropsychological assessment with populations served by the PPTRC is desirable but not required; a strong candidate without this experience would be welcomed. Clinical-track faculty are full members of the faculty, and are expected to demonstrate excellence in the areas of clinical practice/application, service/engagement, and clinical/classroom education for promotion. Although there is no expectation that the candidate will develop an independent program of research, preference will be given to candidates who have an interest in integrating research initiaves within our department, such as neurodevelopmental disorders, behavioral disorders, or others if desired (for a full list of Purdue research centers see: https://www.purdue.edu/research/centers-institutes-cores/list.php).
