Job Summary

As a Clinical Skills Laboratory (CSL) Coordinator, you will play a vital role in advancing hands-on learning and student success within Purdue’s College of Veterinary Medicine. In this position, you will partner with faculty and instructional teams to deliver high-impact, competency-based training experiences that prepare future veterinary professionals for real-world practice.

 

You will support the design and delivery of clinical skills curricula by developing training objectives, creating instructional materials, and facilitating engaging, hands-on learning activities. A key component of this role includes leading the development, fabrication, and maintenance of innovative teaching models and simulators—including the use of 3D printing and custom-built designs—to enhance experiential learning in the clinical skills laboratory.

 

In addition, you will demonstrate and oversee clinical techniques, contribute to student competency assessments, and support program evaluation efforts. You will also manage the day-to-day operations of the CSL, ensuring the lab is organized, fully equipped, and ready for scheduled instruction and open practice sessions.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Design and develop clinical skills models and simulators, including 3D printing and custom fabrication
  • Maintain, repair, and evaluate models to ensure quality, safety, and effectiveness
  • Deliver hands-on instruction and feedback to veterinary and vet tech students
  • Support student assessments, including practicals and grading
  • Prepare and maintain the lab setup for courses and open practice
  • Oversee daily CSL operations, including scheduling and organization
  • Manage inventory, supplies, equipment, and cadaver materials
  • Ensure compliance with safety and biohazard protocols
  • Support summer programs and outreach activities

The salary for this position ranges from $5,000 to $6,666 monthly, based on experience and skills.

 

What We’re Looking For:                                
Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:

 

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program.
  • Credentialed veterinary technician (Indiana registration required within six months of hire).
  • Two years of clinical experience in private practice or a veterinary teaching hospital.

 

Skills Needed:

  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic educational environment.
  • Creativity and problem-solving ability related to instructional design and model fabrication.
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • 3D printing
  • Ability to lift 25–50 pounds frequently and up to 60 pounds occasionally.
