Communications Specialist

Job Summary

 

Purdue’s Military Family Research Institute, part of the College of Health and Human Sciences, pairs research with outreach to help improve the quality of life for service members, veterans and their families. MFRI is seeking a collaborative, versatile and enthusiastic communications professional to help advance the institute’s mission and cultivate its reputation regionally and nationwide. Under the direction of the external relations manager, and in collaboration with other institute members, the individual will play an integral part in generating news and informational materials for MFRI and its diverse audiences, including writing and editing content for press releases, social media, newsletters, websites, emails, reports, proposals and research summaries, as well as create multimedia projects such as video interviews and podcasts. The individual also will assist in the development and implementation of strategic communications and marketing plans.

 

***This is a hybrid position working on campus and from home***

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in marketing, communications, journalism, writing, and digital content creation.
  • Experience implementing a strategic communications or marketing plan, including writing content for website, social media, email marketing, digital media, and print materials.

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with filming and editing video and/or podcast projects.
  • TV/Radio broadcast and/or podcasting experience
  • Experience in the military, government, or public policy industries
  • Thorough knowledge of English grammar and punctuation, familiarity with AP Style.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, as well as demonstrated knowledge of strategic communications and marketing principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others in a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Premiere Pro is desirable.
