Community Health Worker

The Community Health Worker (CHW) will support the community engagement aspects of faculty research projects by working closely with the faculty supervisor and community partner organizations in the Greater Lafayette Area. The CHW will be trained to conduct community-based research and will assist with participant recruitment, informed consent, data collection, and dissemination of findings and resulting interventions. The CHW will also provide health education and resource navigation services to community members as a trusted and collaborative source of information.

 

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • CHW certification or able to complete CHW training and achieve certification within the first six (6) months of hire date
  • Two (2) years of experience as a community health worker, community builder, or volunteer
  • Resident of Tippecanoe County and/or has extensive knowledge of the community members, neighborhood served, and available local resources
  • Strong listening skills with demonstrated empathy, a strong commitment to cultural humility and an innate ability to build relationships with clients and stakeholders of diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to communicate in English with clients, stakeholders, medical, and social-support professionals in both written and verbal form
  • Ability to use technology and software applications, specifically Microsoft Office programs, to track and record data and to submit reports
  • Must have the ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule; including days, nights, and weekends
  • Ability to lift and carry 10 pounds frequently and up to 20 pounds occasionally
