Community Health Worker
Job Summary
The role of the Community Health Worker (CHW) is to support the community engagement aspects of faculty research projects by working closely with the faculty supervisor (Dr. Natalia Rodriguez) and community partner organizations in the Greater Lafayette Area. The CHW will be trained to conduct community-based research and will contribute to study participant recruitment, informed consent, data collection, and dissemination of findings and resulting interventions. The CHW will also provide health education and resource navigation services to community members as a trusted and collaborative source of information for their clients.
Required:
- Has a High School diploma or equivalent
- Must have Community Health Worker certification or complete CHW training and achieve certification within first six (6) months of hire.
- Has a strong desire to influence change in their community and has a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a community health worker or community builder or volunteer
- Is a resident of Tippecanoe County and/or has extensive knowledge of community members, the neighborhood served, and available community resources.
- Must be a good listener, with demonstrated empathy, a strong commitment to cultural humility and an innate ability to build relationships with clients and stakeholders of diverse backgrounds.
- Has a strong ability to communicate in English with clients, stakeholders, medical, and social-support professionals in both written and verbal form.
- Has the ability to use technology and software applications, i.e. Microsoft Office, to track and record data and to submit reports.
- Is flexible, adaptable, and has availability to attend some evening and weekend events.
- Must have the ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods of time.
