Composites Manufacturing and Testing Engineer

The Composites Manufacturing and Simulation Center (CMSC) at Purdue University designs, prototypes and fabricates precision composite structures across aerospace, automotive, and other sectors.  The Manufacturing and Testing Engineer will perform composite manufacturing and testing projects to support sponsored projects at CMSC, including manufacturing of composite structures and test specimens, and performing structural and characterization tests. Organization, reporting, data analysis, and basic CAD are essential.



  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or manufacturing discipline
  • Two (2) years of experience with composite manufacturing or similar precision manufacturing environment
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
    • for example an associate's degree with four (4) years of experience or a high school diploma/GED with six (6) years of experience
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Strong technical writing skills and experience
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 to 50 pounds frequently and up to 60 pounds occasionally



  • Experience in composite testing 
  • Familiarity with CNC manufacturing tools, shop and hand tools and CAD software (Solidworks or CATIA)
