Job Summary

The Conference Coordinator is a critically important administrative position that supports all facets of Purdue Pesticide Programs operations. As a university extension program, this position requires excellent communication skills to handle the many questions posed by the public who desire pesticide certification information. The main day-to-day activities will be to support the commercial pesticide applicator initial certification program, and the farmer recertification educational programs offered in most Indiana counties. One important skill is the ability to work independently to meet ever-changing priorities and to offer suggestions on how the program can be improved to operate more efficiently and effectively.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Assisting staff in implementing commercial and farmer training programs by organizing materials, tracking registration numbers, inventory control of manuals, managing product/printing and distribution of educational materials; maintaining records, and resolving conflicts
  • May be involved in designing training manuals, extension publications, handouts, and brochures as needed
  • Collaborating and communicating with customers and clients both at Purdue University and individuals outside of the university. This communication includes providing advice to those wishing to become certified for applying pesticides for hire and used on farms
  • Working closely within the Purdue University system business office, including but not limited to Office of Indiana State Chemist, and the Purdue Education Store
  • Working with outside vendors including printers
  • Ordering supplies and ensuring office equipment operates properly
  • Maintaining and updating website to include current events and resources
  • Supervising student workers
  • Coordinating Director’s calendar and travel expense reporting
  • Developing strong relationships with business office staff and implement more efficient business procedures
  • Interacting with Office of Indiana State Chemist to stay apprised with new state pesticide regulations and policy interpretations
  • Preparing and updating brochures for promotional materials
  • Designing educational materials for training programs

What We're Looking For:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 4 years of experience in an administrative, operations or program support role 
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with diverse customers and clients both at Purdue University and individuals outside of the university
  • Ability to multi-task, time management, meeting deadlines, paying attention to details, and maintaining confidentiality
  • Be self-motivated and work with limited supervision and changing priorities and workloads
  • A working knowledge of basic computer skills

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing software, Cascade, and Acrobat, and others
