Custodian Crew Chief (Evenings)
Job Summary
In this role, you will serve as working custodian crew chief - evenings for Intercollegiate Athletics facilities. You will be responsible for planning, assigning, and coordinating daily work schedules for full and part-time custodians, sweeping, dust mopping, machine scrubbing and buffing floors, hallways, stairways, basketball courts, etc., as well as vacuuming upholstery, carpets, etc. In addition, you will clean locker rooms, rest rooms, scrub shower tiles, walls, toilets, urinals, sinks, polish fixtures, etc, set-up and take down-various athletic equipment for sports events, paint, change door latches, repair locks, hook-up scoreboard, etc. and monitor use of buildings and rooms to ensure against unauthorized use, vandalism, or theft.
Responsibilities:
- Advise supervisor of the need for Physical Facilities or other resources necessary to maintain ICA facilities
- Train new custodians in cleaning procedures & techniques, safety practices and security procedures, etc.
- Supervise general cleaning and setting up for various athletic events
- Re-assign staff to complete extra or high-priority tasks
- Inspect work and follows up with staff if their work doesn't meet inspection
- Handle routine employee problems
- Answer phone, note schedule changes and additions, etc. in supervisor's absence
- Keep track of all cleaning and maintenance items
- Prepare orders and present them to Superintendent for placement;receive incoming supplies; fill supply orders for service staff and track usage
- Order and control inventory of soft drink use throughout the department and provide breakdown of usage to Athletic Business Office so accounts can be charged back
- Maintain material safety data sheet (MSDS) as needed
- Clean and organize mechanical rooms as needed.
- Handle minor plumbing and electrical repairs
- Perform routine checks on heating and cooling units; perform minor maintenance and adjustment
- Preventative maintenance on Club Car vehicles
Required:
- High School/GED
- 4 years custodian or related experience
- Ability to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions; communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers
- Customer service and teamwork skills
- Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds
- Valid U.S. or Canadian driver’s license
- Must adhere to and comply with Purdue University, Big Ten Conference, and the NCAA applicable rules policies, procedures, rules and regulations
Preferred:
- Supervisory experience
