Dance Accompanist

Job Summary

The Accompanist for the Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance - Division of Dance will accompany dance classes with piano and percussion instruments. Spontaneously modify accompaniment in response to the instructor's direction to students regarding music to movements, phrases, tempo, and meter. Read open scores, play chord changes, and appropriately stylize and improvise related piano parts. Compose and perform live for student and faculty choreographic projects.



***This is a 9-month position at .75 FTE (30 hours per week)***





  • BA/BS degree in music.
  • Minimum of one-year of experience in piano and/or percussion accompaniment.
  • Must be able to read sheet music
  • Ability to musically improvise 
  • Skills in musicality, including tempo and meter
  • Ability to stylize piano and percussion parts to meet choreography needs.
  • Ability to perform on piano and/or percussion instruments.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
