Job Summary
Ready to turn data into insights that help Purdue connect with students and make smarter decisions?
Purdue University's Institutional Data Analytics + Assessment (IDA+A) office is seeking a Data Analyst to support institutional reporting, statistical analysis, and evidence-based decision-making across the University. In this role, you'll help transform complex data into clear, actionable insights that inform university strategies, strengthen student communications, and support operational effectiveness.
Working alongside analytics colleagues and partnering with teams across Enrollment Management Strategic Communications and Initiatives, assessment, data engineering, data science, and data governance, you'll contribute to projects that advance Purdue's strategic priorities. Whether you're developing reports and dashboards, supporting data-driven student communications, or responding to emerging institutional questions, your work will help university leaders understand trends, evaluate opportunities, and make informed decisions.
Flexible work arrangements, including fully remote opportunities for strong-fit candidates, are available. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, collaborating with stakeholders, and turning data into meaningful results. You'll work on moderately complex analytical projects with general supervision while developing your expertise in Slate CRM, institutional analytics, reporting, and business intelligence.
At Purdue, data isn't just about numbers. It's about understanding students, improving how we communicate, and providing the information that helps our University move forward.
You'll have the opportunity to:
-
-
Make a meaningful impact: Support data and reporting initiatives that influence how Purdue communicates with prospective and current students.
-
Connect data and strategy: Partner with Enrollment Management and other campus stakeholders to turn information into actionable insights.
-
Work across systems: Develop expertise in Slate CRM, Cognos, Tableau, and other enterprise reporting tools.
-
Collaborate with talented colleagues: Work alongside teams specializing in analytics, assessment, data engineering, data science, and data governance.
-
Grow your analytical expertise: Strengthen your skills in data analysis, business intelligence, reporting, and data management at a leading public research university.
-
What You'll Do
Data Analytics, Reporting, and Student Communications
-
- Develop, implement, and validate data queries that support targeted student communications and enrollment-related initiatives.
- Serve as a connection between Slate CRM, Cognos, and other enterprise systems to support accurate, reliable reporting and data needs.
- Create and maintain reports, dashboards, and moderately complex datasets that help stakeholders understand trends and make informed decisions.
- Respond to routine and ad hoc reporting requests, balancing ongoing priorities with emerging business needs.
- Build and optimize complex Slate CRM queries and reports to extract, transform, and organize admissions and enrollment data for operational and analytical reporting needs.
- Translate analytical findings into clear, actionable information for operational teams, university leaders, and other stakeholders.
Data Quality, Documentation, and Collaboration
-
- Support the development and improvement of reporting resources, query templates, documentation, and data definitions.
- Help campus partners use Slate reporting tools effectively by sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and promoting reporting best practices.
- Participate in CRM data governance and data quality initiatives to improve the accuracy and reliability of institutional information.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand reporting needs, identify solutions, and support consistent data practices.
- Develop documentation and training resources that help others build confidence in working with data.
What This Job Is
-
- A hands-on analytics role: You'll work directly with institutional data to develop queries, create reports, and answer meaningful business questions.
- A CRM-connected role: A significant part of your work will involve supporting student communications and reporting through Slate and related enterprise systems.
- A collaborative role: You'll partner with teams across campus to understand their needs and deliver practical data solutions.
- A business intelligence role: You'll create reports, dashboards, and analyses that make information more accessible and useful.
- A role with room to grow: You'll work on moderately complex projects with general supervision while developing greater technical and institutional expertise.
What This Job Is Not
-
- Not primarily a data engineering role: You won't be responsible for designing enterprise data infrastructure or building large-scale data pipelines.
- Not a machine-learning-focused data science role: The emphasis is on practical data analysis, reporting, querying, and decision support rather than developing advanced predictive models.
- Not solely a dashboard development role: You'll also work with CRM data, student communication queries, data validation, and cross-system reporting.
- Not an academic research position: Your work will focus on operational and institutional needs rather than conducting independent academic research.
- Not a systems administration role: Managing the Slate instance and system analyst work sits with other team members. You’ll partner closely with them and be the go-to expert on the data and reporting.
