Data Scientist

Job Summary

The Data Scientist will conduct activities related to data organization and cleaning and statistical analyses for the Military Family Research Institute.  The scientist will be expected to consult with researchers to identify and implement appropriate statistical methods for data analysis.  While the Data Scientist will be expected to develop syntax and/or conduct analyses on behalf of researchers, a primary function is to serve as a consultant and/or coach for staff and graduate students who are developing their own syntax/analyses.    



  • Master's degree in statistics, research methods or related field
  • One (1) year of experience with data management and analyses
  • Experience using syntax to structure, clean and label datasets, and appropriately document syntax
  • Proficient with one statistical software package and basic competence with a second software package
  • Familiar with SPSS and SAS software



  • Experience using SPSS
  • Experience writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Knowledge of database structures
  • Competence with a variety of multivariate analytical methods, such as structural equation modelling, multilevel modelling, longitudinal analyses, and factor analyses, particularly in relation to data from families and children
